DoorKing Welding & Fabrication: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

DoorKing welding and fabrication repairs in Los Angeles typically run $340-$780 for most residential gate jobs, with same-day service available when the part is in stock. We carry DoorKing-compatible hinge assemblies, post brackets, and track welding kits on our trucks across Los Angeles County. Most owners figure out something’s wrong when their gate starts sagging on the hinge side or the welded stop-block has cracked clean through from years of metal fatigue.

Which DoorKing Models This Applies To

DoorKing’s product line splits into three eras that matter for fabrication work. The 6000 series swing-gate operators (6300, 6400, 6500) use 1/4-inch steel hinge brackets that bolt to 4×4 posts; the 9000 series slide-gate chain drives mount on heavier 6×6 or steel posts with custom-welded receiver plates. The newer 1600 barrier arm series and 9100 slide-gate models use aluminum extrusion frames that crack at the welded motor-mount junctions after roughly 8-12 years in coastal Los Angeles air.

Here’s how to identify what you’ve got. Check the operator housing for a white or silver label, usually on the motor cover, with a model number starting with those digits. The fabrication part itself rarely carries a DoorKing label; it’s the raw steel or aluminum the operator bolts to. Measure your post diameter and the hinge pin spacing, center-to-center. On the 6000 series, that’s typically 3.5 inches for residential gates up to 16 feet. On commercial 9200 setups, you’re looking at 5.5-inch spacing with 3/8-inch hinge pins.

OEM DoorKing fabrication parts exist but ship slowly and cost roughly 40% more than quality aftermarket equivalents we fabricate in-house. For hinge brackets and post plates, we match the grade and thickness exactly. For custom track repairs on older 9000 series slide gates, aftermarket is often your only option; DoorKing discontinued several track profiles after 2015.

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate sags or drags on the driveway. The bottom hinge bracket has cracked at the weld or the post itself has rotted or loosened in the footing. In Los Angeles, we see this most in hillside properties from the Hollywood Hills to Pacific Palisades where gates carry extra weight on sloped drives.
  • You hear a metal-on-metal clank when the gate opens or closes. The welded stop-block or catch plate has broken free. This piece limits gate travel and keeps the motor from over-cranking; without it, the operator strains and eventually faults out.
  • The operator runs but the gate barely moves, or moves in jerks. The main drive arm or push/pull bracket has cracked at its weld. DoorKing 6300 and 6400 units use a single pivot arm that transfers all motor force through one welded joint; when that goes, the motor spins freely while the gate stays put.
  • Visible rust streaks or scaling at any welded joint. Salt air from Santa Monica to San Pedro accelerates corrosion inside the weld itself. By the time you see orange streaks, the weld has likely lost 30% of its structural integrity.
  • The gate has shifted and now rubs the post or fence line. The mounting plate has pulled its bolts or the post has twisted in its concrete footing. This is almost always a fabrication or installation issue, not an operator problem, though the operator will eventually fail from the uneven load.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Job Type Typical Range (Parts + Labor) What’s Included
Hinge bracket replacement (single) $340-$480 Fabricated bracket, removal of old, re-weld or bolt-on, operator re-alignment
Post plate / receiver fabrication $420-$620 Custom-cut plate, weld to post or bolt-through, gate re-hang
Track section repair (slide gate) $560-$780 Track cut-back, new section welded, roller alignment, operator limit reset
Stop-block or catch plate $280-$380 Fabricated block, weld or bolt-on, travel limit verification

What drives the range? Post material (wood rots, steel rusts, masonry cracks), gate weight (ornamental iron vs. standard tube steel), and access. A hillside driveway in Los Feliz with no turn-around space adds time. Every quote we give is written and agreed before we strike an arc. The Kingswell Guarantee covers our welding and fabrication work for 365 days; if a weld cracks or a bracket fails, we come back and fix it at no charge. Written price first, work second - that’s the only order that makes sense.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a short list of things a handy owner can safely check. Tighten the hinge pin bolt with a socket wrench; if it keeps loosening, the bracket is wallowed out and needs replacement. Look for fresh rust at weld joints. Listen for the clank we mentioned. These checks cost nothing and tell you plenty.

What you shouldn’t do: cut or grind on loaded gate components, attempt to reweld a bracket while the gate hangs on it, or disassemble the operator arm without supporting the gate weight. Gate sections run 200-600 pounds. A failed weld under load drops that weight on whatever’s beneath it. We use chain hoists and temporary supports before any cut-and-weld work. If your bracket is cracked, call us at (940) 412-7340. We’ll give you a real price range over the phone and schedule a free estimate if the job needs eyes on it.
