Gate work is physical, and it’s precise. You show up at a property, figure out what’s actually wrong – not what the homeowner thinks is wrong – and you fix it correctly the first time. The gate might be a swing gate on a ranch property with a FAAC operator that hasn’t had a limit switch adjustment in four years, or a slide gate at a commercial facility running a DoorKing access board that’s throwing fault codes. Either way, you diagnose it, you price it in writing before you touch a bolt, and you do the work. That’s the job.
We’ve been doing this since 2008, and the way the work gets done here is the reason people call us back – and the reason our technicians stay. If you want work that’s straightforward, backed by a brand that runs jobs the right way, and part of a local crew that takes the craft seriously, keep reading.
Who We’re Looking For
- Gate Repair Technician: Someone who can read a wiring diagram, identify what failed, and explain it plainly to a customer who just wants the gate to open.
- Gate Installer: Someone who understands post-setting, alignment, and why a gate that’s off by a quarter inch at installation becomes a problem in year two.
- Electric Gate Technician: Someone who’s comfortable with 24V control boards, loop detectors, and operator brands like LiftMaster, Viking, BFT, and Linear – or eager to learn them systematically.
- Apprentice / Field Trainee: Someone who’s good with their hands, asks the right questions, and doesn’t mind that the first months are mostly watching, helping, and absorbing.
- Dispatcher / Service Coordinator: Someone who stays calm when three jobs are running late and a customer is calling for the second time – organized, direct, and honest with people on the phone.
- Customer Service Representative: Someone who answers the phone like a person, not a script, and understands that a homeowner with a stuck gate is already frustrated before the call starts.
What We Offer
A Real Path From Apprentice to Lead
We don’t hire apprentices and leave them standing next to a truck for six months. From the first week, you’re learning the diagnostic process, the operator brands we service, and the standard we hold every job to. Technicians who put in the work move into lead roles. The path is real, and it’s visible – not something HR prints on a poster.
Work You Can Be Proud Of
The way this company runs jobs is the reason this matters. Every customer gets a written price before any work begins. Every repair carries a written Kingswell Guarantee. If something fails inside that 365-day period, we go back and fix it at no charge, no argument. When you work inside a system like that, you’re not just fixing gates – you’re representing a standard. That’s a different kind of work than showing up, collecting a check, and hoping nobody calls back.
Local Crew, National Backing
Each Portcullis location is independently owned and operated. You’re working with a local crew that knows the area – not rotating through a national dispatch pool where nobody knows your name. But you’re also backed by a brand with trained service coverage across nine major operator brands: LiftMaster, FAAC, BFT, Linear, Viking, Ghost Controls, DoorKing, Elite, and Mighty Mule. That means technical resources, sourced parts, and a name customers already recognize when they call.
Steady Demand for People Who Do the Work Right
Gates break. They break in subdivisions, on commercial lots, at storage facilities, at driveways that see heavy traffic every day. The demand for skilled gate technicians across every market we serve is consistent, and it grows when customers can trust the company handling the call. Doing the job right – priced honestly, completed correctly, guaranteed in writing – is what keeps the work coming.
No Experience? Read This.
If you’ve worked in HVAC, electrical, fencing, low-voltage security, automotive repair, or any trade that required you to diagnose a problem before fixing it, a good portion of what you already know applies here. Gate systems are electromechanical. The skills that transfer are the ones you’d expect: reading a circuit, understanding load and movement, and knowing when something needs to be replaced rather than adjusted.
What we teach is the specific part: the operator brands, the control board logic, the limit switch adjustments, the safety edge wiring, and the diagnostic sequence we use on every job. The first months look like riding along, asking questions, and building the pattern. We don’t expect you to arrive already knowing how a Viking operator handles a secondary entrapment event. We do expect you to show up ready to learn it.
If that sounds like the kind of work you want, call us or fill out the form below.
How to Apply
Call (940) 412-7340 – a live person answers, every day of the week – or use the contact form below. Tell us where you’re based, what you’ve worked on (trade background, tools you’re comfortable with, any operator brands you’ve touched), and when you can start. Hiring happens locally through the Portcullis location nearest you. No resume required to start the conversation.
