Elite Hinge & Roller Replacement: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Elite-compatible hinge and roller assemblies for swing and slide gate systems across Los Angeles, with most replacements running $180-$340 installed, depending on gate size and whether the bracket hardware is reusable. Same-day service is available when you call before noon, and we carry the common Elite hinge pin sizes and nylon roller diameters on every truck. Most Los Angeles owners first notice the problem when their Elite operator starts beeping fault codes or the gate hangs crooked in the frame, often after a season of Santa Ana winds or the grit that blows in from the desert.

Which Elite Models This Applies To

Elite gate operators span several series, and the hinge and roller hardware isn’t one-size-fits-all. The CSW200 and Robo-Swing swing-gate lines use a 5/8-inch hinge pin with a grease zerk fitting, while the older CSW model years (roughly 2002-2012) shipped with a slightly narrower 9/16-inch pin that can wallow out the bracket if swapped incorrectly. Slide-gate systems like the SL3000 use vertical nylon rollers, typically 2-inch or 2.5-inch diameter depending on whether the gate runs on a V-track or angle-iron frame.

To identify your part, check the Elite label on the operator head for the model and date code, then measure the exposed hinge pin with a caliper or even a crescent wrench set to the pin diameter. The bracket bolt pattern matters too: Elite switched from 3.5-inch to 4-inch center-to-center spacing around 2015, and forcing the wrong bracket stresses the post weld. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Elite, so we source both OEM Elite hardware and quality aftermarket equivalents from DuraGates and National Hardware. For most residential Los Angeles gates, the aftermarket hinge with a brass bushing outlasts the OEM nylon version in our experience, especially near the coast where salt air degrades plastic faster.

Signs Your Elite Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing

  • The gate sags or binds at one corner. A worn hinge pin lets the gate leaf drop, putting side load on the Elite operator arm. The operator works harder, draws more amps, and eventually throws an overload fault that reads like an electrical problem when it’s really mechanical.
  • You hear a rhythmic clunk or metal-on-metal scrape when the gate moves. This usually means the nylon roller has cracked or the bearing has spun out. On slide gates, the roller flattens on one side and the gate starts riding the track itself.
  • The operator beeps but the gate barely moves, or stalls mid-cycle. Elite operators have current-sensing boards that detect excess load. A seized hinge or flattened roller can trip the safety reverse repeatedly, and some owners mistake this for a board failure.
  • Visible rust streaks or grease leaking from the hinge barrel. Los Angeles isn’t rust country like the Gulf Coast, but irrigation overspray and the occasional heavy winter rain will find a pin that hasn’t been greased in years. Once water enters the barrel, the pin gallops and the bracket egg-shapes.
  • The gate has shifted in its frame and the latch no longer aligns. This is the hinge pin walking outward or the roller bracket loosening at the post. Caught early, it’s a $180 hinge swap. Ignored, the misalignment stresses the gate frame and the operator mounting bolts, and the repair climbs toward $500 or more.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Typical Range
Single hinge & pin replacement (residential) $180 - $260
Dual hinge set with brass bushing upgrade $280 - $340
Slide gate roller replacement (per roller) $140 - $220
Bracket re-weld or post reinforcement $80 - $150 additional

What drives the range: gate weight and material (wrought iron versus aluminum), whether the existing bracket bolts extract cleanly or need to be cut out, and access. A hillside installation in the Hollywood Hills with a tight setback takes longer than a flat driveway in the Valley. Every quote is written and agreed before we touch a bolt. The parts carry a one-year defect warranty, and our labor is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. Written price first, work second - that’s the only order that makes sense.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground here. An owner can inspect the hinge pin for play by lifting the gate leaf manually (disconnect the operator arm first, per the Elite manual), and can confirm roller wear by looking for flat spots or cracks. What you shouldn’t do: attempt to remove a seized pin with heat near a wooden post, or try to realign a slide gate on its track without blocking the gate securely. Gates are heavy, and a swing gate with a failed hinge can drop suddenly when the last bolt comes out. If you’re comfortable with a wrench and a helper, great. If the pin is frozen or the bracket is cracked, call us at (940) 412-7340. Dean Prescott and our technicians carry the extraction tools, the correct replacement specs, and the welding capability if the post needs reinforcement.
