Training & Ongoing Support
You don’t need to know how to troubleshoot a FAAC 746 operator or tension a cantilever chain to open a Portcullis Gate Repair location. We’ve built our onboarding for people who know how to run a business and treat customers right, then we teach you the trade. Dean Prescott came up through the work itself, and the training program he helped shape reflects that: hands-on, specific, and honest about what you’ll face in the field. By the time your phone rings for the first time, you’ll know how to price a job, dispatch a uniformed technician, and stand behind the repair with the 365-Day Done Right Promise.
Initial Training
Week one through launch covers five areas, and none of them are theoretical.
Operations and The Kingswell Way. You’ll learn the four promises that go on every invoice: the written price before work starts, the real arrival window, the clean job site, and the written guarantee. We practice saying the price out loud before a bolt gets turned. We rehearse what happens when a gate fails inside the 365-day window, because that’s when the guarantee gets tested and your reputation gets made.
The trade itself. You’ll spend time at our training facility working on live equipment: slide gates, swing gates, barrier arms, and the nine operator brands we service - LiftMaster, FAAC, BFT, Linear, Viking, Ghost Controls, DoorKing, Elite, and Mighty Mule. You’ll learn to diagnose a failed limit switch, adjust safety edges, and spot the rust that Dean calls “the quiet failure that started back during the last El Niño season.” You won’t be a master technician on day one, but you’ll know enough to hire, evaluate, and guide the people who are.
Software and dispatch. We train you on the platform that handles scheduling, pricing, invoicing, and the customer communication that keeps no-shows and callback queues from ever becoming your problem.
Hiring and field team development. Background checks, uniform standards, and the soft skills that turn a technician into someone a homeowner trusts at their driveway. You’ll learn our playbook for finding people who already show up on time, then teaching them the gate side.
Local marketing setup. How we introduce a new Portcullis location to its market without pretending we’ve been there since 1950. Each location is an independent local business that agreed to work to the Kingswell Guarantee, and your marketing reflects that honesty.
Launch Support
The gap between “trained” and “open for business” is where a lot of franchises leave owners hanging. We don’t.
Your local marketing launches with the assets and targeting that have worked in markets like yours: suburban homeowners, commercial property managers, the HOAs that manage communities with automatic gates. The lead engine starts turning before your first truck wraps are dry. A field coach rides with you or your lead technician on the first jobs, listening to how you present the written price, watching how you set the arrival window, and flagging anything that drifts from The Kingswell Way. Those first repairs are where habits form, so we treat them like training continues. You’ll also get direct access to Dean Prescott and the operations team for the decisions that don’t fit any playbook: the oddball gate system, the customer dispute, the vendor that suddenly can’t deliver. Launch isn’t a date on a calendar. It’s a process we stay in until you’re handling it without looking at your phone for backup.
Ongoing Support
- Field coaching and technical escalation. Seasoned technicians review photos and video from tricky jobs, walk your team through diagnostics by phone, and visit in person when a repair keeps failing. The nine operator brands we cover mean there’s almost always someone on our team who’s seen your exact problem before.
- Marketing and lead generation. Local SEO, paid search, and seasonal campaigns managed with your market’s data, not national averages. We know which suburbs respond to “same-day gate repair” and which need to hear about access control for commercial properties.
- Vendor relationships and pricing. Preferred rates on operators, parts, and hardware negotiated at the network level, plus guidance on inventory levels so you’re not tying up cash in a warehouse of Mighty Mule actuators that move slow in your climate.
- Technology platform updates. The dispatch, pricing, and customer communication tools keep improving, and training on new features is included. No surprise software fees six months in.
- National brand campaigns. The Kingswell name and the portcullis symbol - that heavy castle gate, strong and reliable, built to work every time - carry weight in markets where we’ve already proved the model. You benefit from that recognition without losing your local identity.
- Peer network of owners. Regular calls and an active channel where owners share what’s working: the Facebook ad that landed three HOA contracts, the technician incentive that cut callbacks, the honest conversation that turned an angry customer into a referral. Dean Prescott sits in on these, and he’ll tell you straight when something sounds like a bad bet.
You’re Never Alone
The portcullis was built to protect what matters, and that includes the people running the business. If you’re serious about opening a Portcullis Gate Repair location, call (940) 412-7340 and you’ll reach a live person, 24 hours a day, even on holidays. No voicemail tree. No callback queue. Ask for franchise information and we’ll send you the numbers: territory availability, investment range, and what the first ninety days actually look like. Or fill out the request form below and we’ll call you within one business day with specifics, not a brochure.
